Volunteering Opportunity

Check this out - thanks OC for finding out!

Morning Olivia:
Yes, we have High School volunteers but they must be members  of our Lacey Teen Council. If you are looking for volunteer hours and/or leadership opportunities this is a FABULOUS organization to belong to. Here is the description from our brochure:
 Lacey Teen Council
What is LTC? The Lacey Teen Council (LTC) is an advisory group of middle and high school teens. As a member of LTC you will learn valuable skills, make new friends, and have a lot of fun! LTC’s purpose is to be a voice for teens and to promote a community where youth are valued and involved. LTC provides opportunities for middle and high school teens to develop leadership skills, plan teen events, community service projects, and serve as an advisory group. High school teens can earn a significant amount of volunteer hours for school requirements, college applications, and job experience. Volunteer opportunities this spring will include the middle school activity nights, Ethnic Celebration, Daddy Daughter Dance, and other special events. LTC applications are available at Lacey City Hall in the Parks & Recreation Dept.  LTC meets the second Monday of each month from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at Lacey City Hall in the Community Room.
Call us at 360-491-0857 for more information!
You can also find application online www.ci.lacey.wa.us;  go to Parks & Recreation Programs and then Lacey Teen Council. There is more info too. Each month at the meeting,  teens are offered many events/programs with volunteer opportunities. They sign up for the programs that interest them. This is a fun time of the year because we have MANY Christmas events. In addition to fulfilling volunteer requirements, you obtain work experience that can help with finding a summer/part-time job. I have employed several LTC members for my summer camps and programs.
Currently, we are recruiting new members because our core of leaders graduated last year and membership is down!! We like to have a council of 20 teens. SO, if you’re interested grab your friends and JOIN US!
ALSO, there will be applications at Timberlines Job Fair on October 27th. Look for our HR person, Kali Nichols (she will have a table set up).

AVID 12 Class Work for 10.1.14

Your focus “What schools are a stretch school, a good match, and a fallback school, and what criteria will I use to select the schools?”

Your Final Three Schools

In your google doc AVID journal, do a 5 minute quickwrite on one of the following prompts:

  • If you have you selected your top three: What colleges did you choose, and what led you to your choice?
  • If you have not selected your top three: What questions do you need to answer to make your choices? What difficulties are you having making the decisions?

Open your Top Ten Colleges Spreadsheet

Discuss  with your partner:
Share you top three colleges/universities, as well as why you selected that college.
Share struggles and questions if you have not chosen your top three.

Complete a University Information Sheet for each college/university selected. Get these from the sub. An electronic version is in your AVID folder on the drive.  You can use to create electronically if you like!

University Information Sheets are due on Friday.

Bring your letters of recommendation on Thursday if not turned in yet!
